Welcome to My Wonderland: Building a Website That’s 100% Me
Creating my website wasn’t just about coding and pixels—it was about wrangling my creative chaos into something cohesive. Let’s be real: I have an extensive resume that’s all over the map, from art and photo restoration to web design, product design, and content creation. I don’t fit in a box—and honestly, boxes bore me.
But that’s also where the struggle began. How do you take all of that creativity and passion and merge it into one place? How do you create a website that isn’t just functional but screams, “HELLOOOO THIS IS YVETTE!”? Well, after way too much overthinking and a few frustrated sighs, I realized the answer: you go back to the drawing board. Literally.
Starting with a Blank Page (and a Pen That Actually Writes)
I grabbed a pen and paper and started sketching—not just designs but ideas, feelings, and fragments of my creative identity. I asked myself: What am I passionate about? What do I want this site to say about me?
I thought about the things I’ve done:
- Restoring memories through photo restoration.
- Designing websites that feel like home, not just placeholders.
- Creating products that merge functionality with beauty.
- Building content that connects and inspires.
It became clear: this wasn’t just a website. This was a hub for everything I do. I needed to create a parent company to house all these pieces—a Wonderland where my ideas could live and breathe.
Why Wonderland?
The name wasn’t a random pick. I’d originally named my slice of the site “Yvette’s Wonderland” because it felt like the perfect way to describe what I do: creating unique, imaginative things that don’t follow the rules. But the more I thought about it, the more it evolved.
Wonderland became the metaphor for my creative process: a place where ideas aren’t boxed in, where curiosity leads the way, and where designs feel alive and full of personality. No cookie-cutter layouts. No “seen-this-a-thousand-times” designs. Just vibrant, dynamic spaces that reflect my creativity.
The Agitation That Fueled My Ambition
You know what really gets under my skin? Websites that feel uninspired. You’ve seen them: the overly templated, boxed-in designs that make you yawn before the page even finishes loading. I wanted my site to be the antidote to that.
This was my chance to showcase what I love to do—and to remind myself that I can design for myself if I stop overthinking and let my creativity flow.
The Process That Helped Me Shine
Once I had my vision, the rest fell into place (sort of—there were still plenty of “WHY isn’t this working?!” moments). Here’s what worked:
- Pen and Paper First: Starting with sketches gave me clarity. There’s something about physically drawing your ideas that makes them feel real.
- The Parent Company Idea: Grouping all my talents under one roof—Wonderland—helped me see the bigger picture.
- Ditching Perfection: I reminded myself that this site didn’t need to be perfect—it just needed to be me.
- Letting My Voice Be Heard: This site is the first time I’ve truly said, “This is Yvette.” It’s not bent to fit a group project or someone else’s vision. It’s mine.
What My Wonderland Stands For
This website isn’t just a portfolio; it’s my creative home. It’s a space where all my talents—art, design, photo restoration, content creation—live under one roof. It’s colorful, bold, and unapologetically me.
Every pixel, every font, every quirky little touch says: “HELLOOOO THIS IS YVETTE!” It’s the product of late nights, endless sketches, and a lot of self-reflection.
A Final Thought
If you’re like me—multi-passionate, slightly chaotic, and full of ideas—just know that it’s okay to feel stuck. Sometimes, the blank page is overwhelming, and sometimes, you have to take a step back, grab a pen, and plot it all out. But in the end, the result is worth it.
So, here it is: my Wonderland. A place where I don’t just create—I thrive.
